Recent surveys have shown that boys in German schools are on average trailing behind girls in the core subjects of reading and in mathematics. Their average grades on Gemany's university entrance exam are lower,and they are far more likely than girls to leave school without any qualifications at all. Federal Family Minister Kristina Koehler says the German school system puts boys at a disadvantage,and she has come up with an extensive program designed to redress the balance.
